Meet Niloofar Asadi (she/her), an Iranian filmmaker and visual storyteller in San Francisco. Her work, spanning visual arts, cinema, and theater, captures character-driven stories with a focus on human emotion and expression of self-identity.

Delving into existential themes like resistance and trauma, Niloofar's art reflects her experiences with displacement and her journey to redefine her artistic identity. By portraying the characters in a state of crisis, she positions the viewer in an uncomfortable circumstance of witnessing suffering and pain, exposes them to the existential and psychological states of the characters, and seeks to provoke complex feelings and responses, whether self-reflective or sympathetic, in the viewer.

Holding an MFA in Motion Pictures and Television from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, Niloofar has been a dynamic filmmaker, writer, and visual storyteller since 2004. Her diverse works, including short films, documentaries, and visual arts, have been recognized internationally.

Since moving to the US in 2015, Niloofar has expanded her storytelling, challenging stereotypes often associated with Middle Eastern artists. Her current projects include "ROYA" (2023), a feature film script, and "The Cypress Tree" (2023), a feature film in development inspired by her battle with cancer. "GORDAFARID" (2023) is a photo series and video installation, and "Home" is a multimedia artwork based on her displacement experiences.
