Steve Javiel creates from the heart. He believes in pursuing innovative ways to express the story of our lives. The narratives told throughout his paintings reflect on the natural human experience in a vulnerable and visceral sense.

"To someone a wall or a train means nothing, but to me it represents an untold, and unappreciated story," Steve explains, "The layers of textures, typography, colors, graffiti, and decay, have all been applied and manipulated in some form by humans, nature, time, and the environment. This random orchestration fascinates me." Steve uses a variety of materials to build the surfaces of his paintings, ranging from acrylic, oils, and pumice, to joint compound, paper, spray paint, and stencils.

Through his creative process, Steve forms a deep connection to the industrial surfaces he recreates. "I am paying homage to it as if it is a wise elder. These surfaces have emotions and stories to tell and I feel they are revealed if you are willing to look past the “ugliness” of them. [...] The process is layers on top of layers until the surfaces take on a life of their own"
