Claire Lau is a plein air oil painter that captures the natural beauty of urban landscapes in both San Francisco and Hong Kong. She also prides herself as an educator and activist with a worldly background striving for human and nature cohabitation.

Lau scouts out locations with views that incorporate an urban and natural juxtaposition while she goes for walks. She sketches out the scene first, determines the canvas size and over the course of several weeks or even months she visits the same location to finish one painting. Her ground always starts with a red hue which gives a rich color history with the greenery as the main component. Lau’s partiality to bright colors stems from California’s blue skies and bright plants she discovers throughout the Bay Area.

Clair had a solo exhibition at Inclusions Gallery this past spring, and will be returning for a group show at the end of 2021.
