Hailey Lindsay has been a city artist for 5 years and relishes the Bay Area art scene. San Francisco gives Hailey a sense of ease and heightened creativity.

Hailey’s specialty is abstract portraits overflowing with color, impasto, and layers of dried, leftover acrylic paint. Her technique of incorporating recycled paint builds depth to her work while also being conscious of sustainability. While wielding a palette knife and a palette full of fresh paint, Hailey has a conversation with her painting: “It speaks to me and tells me where to put each new stroke and each new detail. I never go into a painting expecting a certain outcome because the piece adds onto itself in spontaneity.” When Hailey is starting a portrait piece, she chooses one color to give a structure to the visage and from there she builds on. On the flip side, “When I create an abstract painting that does not include a face or body, the story is spoken through colors, expressing the emotions I am feeling at the time of production, and the details are added naturally as the piece is constructed.”

Emerging from a dark and dusty garage, Hailey has secured her first, formal artist studio at Hunter’s Point Shipyard! This space will allow her to expand her budding art career while gaining exposure and creating new networking opportunities.
