A note from the Guest Curator

“Seeing Jun’s work at the Artist Residency at the Van Gogh Exhibit, I was taken aback by how much love & joy he fits into his work. With canvases ranging from gigantic to tiny, his Instagram profile (linked below) generously shows his prolific practice as a full-time artist. Jun exemplifies the “flourishing artist”, in contrast to Van Gogh, who lived his life starving for people's love. He generates beauty, love & community wherever he goes. Featuring his work at Ingleside Gallery gives me and fellow artists so much hope & inspiration. I've collaborated with Jun on murals & art projects—he's such a delightful human to work with. Jun is a bright ray of hope & helps me navigate the stormy sea of the art world.”

Jun Yang from Seoul, South Korea, now resides in San Francisco. The city’s cultural diversity, celebrated urban landscape, & natural beauty inspires Jun. The socially-inclusive culture provides support for queer creators. Jun is a self-taught artist unafraid of color & new techniques.

His struggles & life journey depicted in this series details his constant navigation of heteronormative expectations he experienced while growing up in Korea. “Human bodies are like containers in which our bodies carry memories of experiences good & bad. The latter is harder to process.”

Jun’s CV lists numerous national & international exhibitions including KunsthausGraz in Austria, MOCA Taipei, Taiwan, de Young Museum & galleries in Seoul, Korea. Jun’s art speaks to viewers across cultures & continents through the common language of art.
