Sophia Lee moved to San Francisco in 2015 and creates mixed-media art out of her studio in the Mission.
"The ever changing lights of the city from climate to environment, the landscape and the sea and fog all play a major role in my work in terms of shape and color. The abundance of urban waste also is a source of material for my work."
- Sophia Lee
Materials, especially urban waste, drive the approach of each project she pursues. Coffee lids, cosmetics, plastic, metal, fibers and more are repurposed to create a wide range of compositions from paintings and collages to weavings and installations. The patterns and colors Lee observes around her influences and drives the direction of the the art itself.
