Uma Rani Iyli is a pattern and color-driven artist. She was born in Bangalore, India, and has been operating her creative practice out of San Francisco since 1996.

"My process is meditative and mimics the traditional handwork practices of women tied to my Indian background and childhood memories. Through various media, I intentionally integrate the vibrant colors inspired by traditional Saris. Repetitive wrapping, painterly mark-making, and patterns inform my paintings, fiber work, installations, and photographs. Conceptually, it is the idea of connective threads that tie them all together. Merging up-cycled daily objects with ancient practices act as an avenue for dialogue between culture and time."
