Arthur Norcome moved to the Bay Area 20 years ago with the intention of studying Illustration at CCA. After settling in, his love of abstraction was rekindled by the creative magic this region offers.

Arthur captures the balance between control and chaos in his watercolor paintings. “While exploring watercolors’ natural luminosity I use blocks of color and bold strokes to add structure and stability to the medium’s desire to run free.” His practice starts with daily sketching, masking the surface with tape to secure the purity of the white background, and then adding in flowing blocks of color showcasing the luminosity of the pigment.

Arthurs recently had work displayed at the Art of The African Diaspora at Richmond Art Center and a smaller show at Slate Gallery.
