Meet Francisco Rojas (He/Him), is a Mission District-born artist now living in Richmond, CA. He still considers the Mission his home and gladly takes any opportunity to come into the city to be with friends, family, or go grocery shopping.

Francisco is a multi-disciplinary artist with expertise in printmaking, bookbinding, textiles, and rug tufting. He utilizes his art practice as a way to bridge connections between his ancestors, land, and plant spirits. He shares, “Location is important to me as it’s a place where our ancestors call home, elevating the vibration of the land.” His practice relies on honoring and remembering rituals, botanical connection, and ancestral knowledge. He sees his process as a ritual, finding that there are moments when all his practices intertwine together and others when they rely on their own individual moments.

Francisco’s interests and passions have led him to doing different kinds of community work eventually leading him to establishing a print collective called Liberacion Grafica, a collective born out of the Richmond Ar tCenter. Through this collective he wants to empower his community to share their voice through screen printing. He and the collective are actively looking for opportunities to continue growing and to do live printmaking demos!

From September 15 to October 15th, Alejandra Rubio guest curated "We The Artists" featuring 5 standout Bay Area Latine artists, highlighting the modern artistic identity and representation.
