Hello Shipyard Artists,

ArtSpan is preparing to announce its fall 2025 San Francisco Open Studios (SFOS) dates this month. We remain steadfast in our desire to return in community with Hunters Point Shipyard Artists and hope you will join us for our 51st production of SFOS.

2025 SF Open Studios will run from September 19 through mid-October. We are aware that the Shipyard Artists are interested in hosting their open studios the weekend of October 18 & 19, 2025. To be in community, we invite you all to join SFOS with an exclusive Shipyard weekend as an organized group site. Islais Creek artists may choose to align with the Shipyard Artist weekend or another geographically aligned with their location.

We understand the financial investment for Shipyard Artists to The Point, STAR, and ArtSpan’s SF Open Studios registration fees has been a burdensome hurdle in the past. To mitigate this, we propose the Shipyard participate as a group site with artists registered at the Basic level ($105). Note that SF Open Studios registration requires ArtSpan membership, currently $50 annually,* for a total investment of $155. 

The benefits of Basic include:

  • Participation in the citywide SF Open Studios program

  • Personal artist listings in the Online Guide only

  • Shipyard-dedicated weekend promoted as an official part of the SFOS program

  • Artist media kit to assist with promoting your open studio events (includes captions, blurbs, logos, & graphics)

Artists who wish to register at the Premier level, which includes participation in the exhibition at SOMArts and a listing in the printed guide can still do so by registering at the $200+ level before the print deadline. 

If there is collective registration at the Basic level, perhaps Shipyard Artists can organize purchasing a one or two page advertisement in the printed Guide to represent the group site and registered artists in print. Please note, this opportunity is available only with full group participation, meaning artists must be registered by the ad deadline (typically June).

We appreciate a response to gauge Shipyard Artist interest by Tuesday, December 17, 2024. A definitive answer on group participation is needed by early January 2025 to ensure our public messaging around ArtSpan’s 2025 SF Open Studios production is clear.

*ArtSpan Artist Membership fees are increasing to $75 annually beginning January 6, 2025. Register/renew before the new year to lock-in the current rate of $50 and another year of incredible benefits at the lower rate.
