Malik Seneferu’s eternal manta is “REMAIN CREATIVE”, a saying that has propelled his artistic growth as a San Francisco native artist. Although he is most known for his bold paintings, Malik’s mixed media practice involves wooden assemblages, murals, digital illustrations, hand-drawn portraits, and large-scale public artworks.

Malik explores “race, politics, protest and historic unrest in his work. He is best known for his colorful abstract representations ‘The Black Essences.’” This series along with the collection "From the Hill and Beyond" contain over one thousand pieces all loaded with rich, saturated hues, pronounced black linework and abstracted portraits highlighting visual elements of his African heritage.

His process is very similar to how a musician operates: employing improvisation and freestyle. He also works with his community a lot and is a proponent of proper representation of Black artists of all ages. Malik’s captivating work has been featured around the world and locally, including in our Art-In-Neighborhoods program. His partner Karen Seneferu is also an incredible artist and curator, and their power couple status in the arts can be experienced by following @Black_Love_Artists.

In 2022, Malik had several shows lined up including “Black Artists on Art” at the Crocker Art Museum & “Out of Hand” National Juried Exhibition at the Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Art Center in Maryland.
