dani lopez is a textile-centric artist crafting up weavings, appliques, and soft sculptures that revolve around the lesbian-queer experience. Her inspiration stems from her inquiry: “Where is our place?” in reference to queer women that do not fit the norm in mainstream heterosexual and gay cultures. Coming to San Francisco was an intended move due to our abundant, queer history which enriches dani’s creative process.

dani explains her work further: “It's textile work, done with an intentional made-by-hand look. None of it is perfect and it's not intended to be. This work isn't trying to be a painting or any other type of ‘formal’ work. It's messy, sometimes it's on the floor, and other times it can't be contained. I've been asked if an embroidered work was actually intended to show the drape of the textile. Yes, it was.” Her anti-assimilation disposition revolts against what we consider “fine art.”

Pride equates to rebellion for dani; find her at Dyke March or Trans March instead of the corporate-backed parade down Market St. She finds utter importance in learning about queer history which allows for progression and gratitude for queer leaders of the past.

In 2021, she had work exhibited at @BedfordGallery in their show "A Beautiful Mess," received a full scholarship from Crafting the Future to attend a weaving workshop at Penland [@PenlandSchool] in the summer, and CERF+ [@CERFPlus] awarded her a professional development grant to invest in her practice in May.
